The Host

I just finished reading Stephanie Meyer's book "The Host." Everyone has been asking if I liked it or if it was as good as the "Twilight" series.  "The Host" took me a bit to get into. I had  a hard time with the alien invasion at first. However, I did really enjoy this book.  There is a lot of  information in this book and the characters are just as good as the "Twilight" Series.  I think the second time I read it, I will have a better grasp of everything in it.  I still can't wait until "Breaking Dawn" is out in August. I know for sure, I will read "Twilight," "New Moon," and "Eclipse" again before it comes out. That will make 4 times!  Isn't that crazy? I know, a little obsessive. Anyway, if you haven't read it, go and read "The Host." It was a great book!

ok so I shouldn't admit that I read the twilight series 4 times between Dec. 20th and Feb 4th???? Would that make me obsessive? Oh and I FULLY intend to read them again before Breaking Dawn comes out - I have no problems admitting i'm pathetic :D

i'm glad you liked it, I was worried but now i'll go get it :D

Thanks, Jess! I went to Borders to get it and its only in hardback and I wasnt prepared to spend $25+ on a book... lol... I think I'll just have to wait until my mom or sister get it... or until I can't stand it anymore and just splurge! :D

It's taking me a bit of time to get through it too, but I like that characters. Have you read the excerpt from the first chapter of Breaking Dawn? It's on my blog if you haven't. Bella is still really whiny, and I hope the love triangle is over, but you know my name is on the reserve list for it, and I'll probably have to fight Carl to read it first! :-)

I am glad to know that the Host picks up. I got it for Mothers day and dare I say am only a few chapters into it. I couldn't decide if it was because it wasn't interesting or if its because I am so beat by the end of the day with all our unpacking and being pregnant. I will hang on then. Because I too loved Twilight!!

In the tribute to Stephanie Meyer, as one of Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential Americans, Orson Scott Card described Edward as Mr. Darcy for the 21st Century. That makes Edward nearly perfect and even though he spends all night in Bella's room he really never would ever hurt her or take advantage of her. Given that explanation maybe I can make allowances for why a woman would allow a man to stay the night. But I still don't want my 12-year-old Beehives gushing over how wonderful Edward is. They are way too young for the books! I, too, enjoyed the originality of the stories, though book three really drags. But they aren't on my list of rereads. I went to West Yellowstone on Saturday and found books in two bookstores. I came home with a 3-volume set of Faulkner, short stories by Proulx, and a novel by Annie Dillard. I'm in heaven! There are too many good works out there to re-read most Young Adult Lit.
