Reflecting on trick-or-treating......

I realize I have already posted quite a bit today, but I can't help reflecting on my childhood on a night like tonight. As I sit here answering the door for all the trick-or-treaters, I am reminded of the many Halloween nights I trudged through snow, and fought the cold weather to go reap the reward of candy. Many Halloweens, you couldn't tell what I was because my costume was buried beneath my snowsuit. I remember my dad driving along in the van with the door open so we could jump in for a reprieve from the cold. I also remember many Halloween nights going to Grandma Ella's house for hot chocolate or apple cider and delicious homemade donuts! We always looked forward to finishing up our night at her house. I might have to start that tradition with my kids. After trick-or-treating, we always came home to show my mom how much candy we got and then set to counting it out to see how many pieces we got. So tonight, as I reflect, I am grateful for my amazing childhood and the memories I have. Especially for my dad and Grandma who helped make those wonderful memories! I hope my children will look back fondly on their Halloween nights when they are older and remember the times they ventured out trick-or-treating.

I love that. I to remember my days as a kid. I remember when we first moved to Kearney MO. My mom and dad filled 3 of the standing laundry baskets. The really big ones. And ended up running out of candy. TONS and TONS of kids. Those were the days. I remember last Halloween when it was you and I in Lemuels truck running the kids around. They sat in the back and had a ball. REMEMBER? I miss more than you know. I Love You!!!

I love those memories too. It was so much fun even though we were freezing. It was worth it. We will have to see if Grandma still has her doughnut recipe. Yummy!
